The When

Show: January 20 - February 14, 2009

Opening Reception: January 31, 2009 from 6 to 9 pm

The What

In this new series, Louter draws on archived historical imagery, elements of entertainment, and narrative traditions like film noir to create a haunting series of figures and objects veiled in obscurity of time or place. His portrayals lay bare a fascination with the idea of collective misremembering and the distortion of meaning that occurs over time, as inevitably memory is infected by movies, books and other media.

Art Show @ ProjectSpace176

The Magic
A night of performance, from song to sculpture, curated by Lail Arad
January 10th, 2009 7.30-9pm

ProjectSpace 176
176 Prince of Wales Road
London NW5 3PT

Contested Ground
Organised by students from
Goldsmiths MFA Curating and
Royal College of Art Curating Masters
January
17 - 18 2009

The group’s curatorial statement reads as follows:

Results or outcomes are rarely left to chance; the indiscernible is unacceptable. This rejection of the unforeseen creates a closed system where predictability and predetermination are celebrated. In the name of embracing the unexpected and reinstating the importance and efficacy of chance, 176 will become a test site for curatorial experimentation and artistic productivity. In an environment which encourages overlapping, ‘competition’ for space and visibility, and forced interaction, the closed system of predictability is replaced by a space of potential where multiple outcomes are produced, questions are asked, and opinions are posited.

Going Green at a whole new level.

Kenya-based eco-business that turns used flip flops into one-of-a-kind jewelry and sculptures as well as practical pieces like children's toys, laptop bags and belts.

Julie Church and Tahreni Bwanaali founded UniquEco in 2005 after seeing the devastating effect that flip flops discarded on the East African coastline was having on the marine eco-system. Inspired by local women and children making cushions and toys out of this washed-up trash, they decided to create a company that would help the environment, provide work for the community and design unique objects for art lovers around the world.

Branding.

We all know it is an important part of advertising. But it is also an important part of life. Bennett Peji Design takes branding to a whole new level...

"A city brand identity system must be so much more than words and images. It must tell a story that honors the heritage of the city while embracing the future, so that the it can become an intrinsic part of the community's culture and identity."
